Who?
Jackie was the first black person to play in the MLB( Major League Baseball). In 1947 Jackie played his first year of baseball and won rookie of the year. In 1949 Jackie won the MVP award. In 1955 Jackie and his team won the World Series. Jackie was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1962. In 5 at-bats Jackie hit a three run Homer, and three singles. People called him the Most exciting player. Because Jackie played he made integration go to other sports when he joined the MLB. White players began to leave the league because of black players. Jackie was a good baserunner. Jackie Robinson faced discrimination in his days in the Military. The league was segregated into the White leagues and the Negro leagues. If it wasn’t for Branch Rickey actually chose Jackie to play in the leagues to integrate baseball, and that is what made baseball what it is today. Surprisingly Jackie won the Los Angeles ping pong tournament. He even said, “Above everything else, I hate to Lose”. Jackie wouldn’t have had such a great career and impact he had on baseball if Branch Rickey didn’t take a risk and choose Jackie. If Jackie wouldn’t have been picked he wouldn’t have had such an impact on the game we know now. Branch Rickey was the president of a minor league team. Jackie was doing so well that Branch Rickey had promoted Jackie into the major leagues. On Jackie's first game he scored the winning run but didn’t get a hit that game.
